The digits column can be used in check digit calculations.
Digits are assigned such that:
- The letters used as check codes are assigned their corresponding digit;
- The letters The (π), Of (π), And (π―), To (π), and For (π) have different digits;
- The letters F, H, G, U and A (Mer ID gene codes) have different digits;
- Talls are even and Deeps are odd;
- paired shorts and ligatures are also even and odd (important for transposition errors on compact Dominion keyboards that share these keys);
- paired odd-even code combinations are unique;
- for example, Are and Or are a paired combination with digits 6 and 3, respectively – 6 and 3 are not used for any other pair.
- check digits are evenly spread
- digits 5 and 7 are each used four times, all other digits are used five times each.
Some of the above rules are contradictory – they are listed in order of priority.
