Description

Roseman

The mainworld of the Roseman system is a tiny ball of rock that orbits a Red Dwarf star – Tumie.  Though only in the second orbit and right on the star’s Safe Jump Radius, the star’s low energy output makes for a freezing world.  A tiny planet, local gravity is only 0.2G, and with that small mass, Roseman is tidally locked to Tumie, always keeping the same face to the star.

Roseman is unusual in the Dominion in that it does not have a significant Highport; though, there is one of the Legion’s old Light Carriers in permanent orbit around the planet that serves as a base for such orbital tasks as may be required.

Commercial shipping either remains in orbit and is serviced by shuttles and auxiliary craft, or comes down to the Downport.

As an airless rock with low gravity, the Dominion’s colonisers noted a high, lone mountain near the substellar point (the part of the planet closest to the star), and decided to build the downport on it.  Though there are the usual runways and landing fields at the base of the mountain, some spacecraft that would usually dock with a Highport can opt to dock at one of the docking gantries that ring the mountain peak – something viable for unstreamlined ships usually constrained to highport operations given the lack of atmosphere and low gravity.  All downports tend to have issues with low-levels of radiation from ship’s drives, but Roseman is more irradiated than usual given the docking arrangements.

Roseman has a population of just under 200,000 people.  Not all Way Stations have any substantial industry, but Roseman is rich in certain minerals and metals and has a small but robust mining industry and some cottage manufacturing to value-add to those resources to meet local needs.

The main settlement, well away from the spaceport, is called Twilight City.
