U is provided for where a person is ‘new’ to the gene pool, orphans etc.  Genetic testing of an unknown can usually identify if the person is a ‘G’ but if they are not a G they are assigned a ‘U’.

All Felline IDs start with an A.  Felline IDs are not further affected by the assignment rules below.

Gene Code

Gene codes are as above – ‘A’

Date of Birth

Date of Birth is in Cycles, as per the Dominion Calendar (ie. omitting the dot) – ‘999999’

  

System Code

System code is as per the list of main Dominion Systems – ‘AA’. 

It records the place of birth registration, not the place of birth.

Note that this is two characters in Dominion script – conversion to contemporary symbols may give a longer string.  

If a person is born and registered aboard a spacecraft, the usual practice is to give them the system code (and Region Code) of the ship’s origin system (and last docking point).  However, some people are instead given System and Region codes that match the equivalent codes in the ship’s registration code; for a Legion ship, this is the build location code converted to the equivalent xx-xxx System and Region code.  Both practices are legal and accepted.

A person can also be registered at the Separatist world of Gateway, at the Dominion Embassy there.  Such a person is given the System Code of THTH.

  

Region Code

Region code is the three alphanumeric designator assigned to each sub-world Region (similar to airport codes today, but sometimes they contain numbers) – ‘XXX’.  Again, this is the place of birth registration, not the place of birth.  However, Felline will be registered to their home territory, irrespective of where the birth was recorded. 

If a special System Code is assigned, there is a huge list of special region codes that apply.

A person with the System Code of THTH will be given a special region code based on their actual place of birth.

  

Birth registry code

Birth registry code is a two digit code assigned to a facility that can register a birth – ’99’.

For about half the Mers in the Dominion this is ’01’.

78	Legion Shipboard Medical Facility
80-86	8-series codes are reserved for special bureaucratic uses
87	Health Bureau (Health Bureau Special Use code – most often, code used for babies that die soon after birth and are not registered via the usual channels, but may be used in other circumstances)
88	Mercantile Bureau (born in space and registered shipboard)
89	Trade Bureau (born in space and registered shipboard); in practice, Trade Bureau ships no longer carry birth registration equipment and no living person likely has this code
90, 92-94, 96	9-series codes reserved for admin use
91	A shipboard-registered birth not covered by codes 78, 88 or 89
95	Immigrant – this person was not born in the Dominion; note this code is not reliably issued, sometimes such people get a ’98’ code instead
97	Reissue (This is a New Mer ID, reissued)

A person born aboard a spacecraft will either have a code of 78, 88, 89 or 91, indicating the birth was registered on the ship itself, or a 98 code indicating the person was registered later in port.

   

Serial

Serial is a three-digit number starting at 001 and incrementing with each birth registered at that facility on that date.  Code 000 is not used.

  

Check Code

One of the Dominion’s standard check codes:  Z, W, T, TH, F, V, S, N, A, I.

The check code is an implementation of the Modulo 10 algorithm, after converting alpha characters into two-digits based on their Dominion alphabetical order.  The check digit produced is converted back to an alpha character in the order above from 0 to 9.

  

Examples

Example of a Geneered person born on GRRAS on the day Overlord Zarg took power: 

G-193882-VL-GRR-01-001-N

GRRAS is a small facility and the main registration centre has registered the birth.  This is the first baby registered on that date.
