3-001: The Story So Far…

Module Introduction

The Argyle Notebook picks up from where the players got up to in the live session, with the players having located and made their offer to Willard Argyle and been kicked out of his house at turret point in a firm rejection.

The party of Richard, Alan, Christopher , Oliver, the ship’s Engineer and Doctor left GRRAS in their Snark-class courier and travelled to the world of Pristine in Octant 3(Standard Route:  Riddle  ->  Witnish  -> Zargonia  ->  Argyropoulos  ->  Pristine, total distance 85.5 light years.)

Their mission is to obtain a specific notebook from a man named Willard Argyle and return it to Minor Vizier Frederick.  The Engineer, Erin, and Doctor have remained aboard the ship.  After travelling around and asking questions of the locals, which included a trip to an operating mine site and a touristy-type hunting lodge, Richard, Alan, Christopher and Oliver drove a hired crawler vehicle to a much more isolated and smaller hunting lodge to speak with a local character.  They seem to have located Argyle but he refused to sell his notebook to agents of Frederick.  They are now outside the lodge in the crawler, having been threatened with internal defence turrets, and Willard has retreated inside.

The lodge itself is set atop a hill with good views of the approaches for at least 300m.  From what they saw of the lodge itself it has perhaps half a dozen rooms and is partially dug into the hill itself.  While inside they saw a front room, with a boot room off to one side that can be used as an airlock against the cold and outside environment.  Beyond that is a main room where Willard spoke to them.  Off the main room is a small kitchenette and a back area of unspecified size and additional rooms they did not see.  The lodge is sturdily constructed, a mix of tech was observed inside, the older stuff presumably original equipment with higher-tech add-ons.

The Crawler is parked some 200m from the main door, which is a person-sized entrance and also has a garage-size door they have not seen open.  The lodge is surrounded by a sturdy concrete fence and the Crawler is parked in front of a large main gate supported by two thick pillars.  The sun is beginning to set.  , but Pristine spins slowly on its axis and there is probably at least two hours of good light remaining.  <Retconn’d:  Pristine’s day is about 0.7 of a Cycle.>

My thoughts: Are we inside the lodge or still out in the vehicle? What technology does the lodge have? Is there vacancy to stay?
Does everyone remember how their character behaved? I have some vague memories about each of them.
I’m also happy to play by ear since it has been 3 years.

Oliver’s thoughts: I’m not sure what the plan is, all I know is it isn’t my place to be making one. It’s the Vizier’s mission, he can think about the next plan of action.

Expression: “What’s the plan, Dicard?” – regardless of if we’re inside the lodge or not.

  2. Oliver Starr says:

At Dicard’s order I pull out my laptop and see what can be done. May I make a computer operations/cryptography/research roll to determine my accessibility to his network? (If so I rolled a 12 Against 13/12/12 respectively.)

Oliver: “I’ll see what I can do. If he’s controlling those turrets remotely, I assume there should be some sort of central digital hub controlling the lot. Otherwise he’s got a board with a lot of switches on it somewhere inside, which would make it harder to do it from here and someone would need to sneak in.”

(My Elec Operations skills aren’t listed, but I believe I wanted them the same as my repair skills: Security, Communications, E-Warfare and Surveillance, Computer Operation being it’s own skill. However I’m fairly certain that’s using them at their own terminals.)

  3. Cristopher Uddin says:

If the only option is sneaking in. I think christopher is the most proficient at stealth of the 4.

Christopher: “If all your gadgets dont work, how about i just go in and get him?”

  4. Richard Dicard says:

Ric – “Sounds good team, we’ll see how we go by tonight, the shroud of darkness should help for certain.”

  5. Alan Halcyon says:

Alan- “Sure sounds like a great plan boss. so before we sneak in I’ll drive us away so he thinks we have left then circle around once we are out of sight then come from a different angle i recommend trying to find a way in that isn’t the main door.”
